
Community Residences has excellent facilities for our training classes. Classes are available for outside agencies as well as CR employees. Listed below are the training classes that are available.
Adult CPR
This 3 1/2 hour course provides instructions on how to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack, caring for conscious and unconscious victims, rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Participants learn how to provide CPR to an adult whose heart has stopped beating, as well as how to use the local emergency medical services effectively. Participants completing this training will receive an American Safety & Health Institute CPR card. Cost is $45 per person.

First Aid
“This 3 1/2 hour course provides instruction on assessing and caring for medical emergencies and injuries including burns, cuts, poisons, bleeding, shock and splinting. Participants learn how to administer basic first aid using the American Safety & Health Institute’s First Aid training for first responders. All course material is provided, and a certification card will be available upon completion of course. Cost is $45 per person.

Medication Management Certification
This 4-day (8 hours per day for a total of 32 hours) course with curricula designed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, teaches students to monitor medication use, the 5 client rights of medication management and the identification of selected medication. The course also includes an insulin module. Training is provided by a certified licensed RN or LPN instructor. Cost is $320 per person.

Medication Management Refresher Course
This 4-hour refresher course provides a review of medication management tasks for medication aides as a supplement to the Medication Management Certification. Training is provided by a certified licensed RN or LPN instructor. This course is in compliance to assist and train staff at facilities licensed by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, Substance Abuse Services, the Department of Social Services, the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Department of Education. Participants should bring a copy of their Medication Management Certificate or course record signed/dated by instructor. Cost is $60 per person.
