I like coming to Artworks because I’ve always been a bit on the creative side doing crafts such as sewing, cross stitch, painting, and clay. I also enjoy the company of the art teacher and of my fellow artists. Art to me can be very relaxing and a good outlet for something to do when I am anxious, bored, or restless and usually gets me great results!
"ArtWorks gets me out of my apartment and gives me something to do. It gets my mind off of the hustle and bustle. When I’m painting, I become very focused. I like to see and socialize with other people and they give me new ideas."
"I like ArtWorks because it makes me feel less anxious. It allows me to stay focused on the task at hand. I also enjoy meeting new people."
Aimee, Art Program Manager
"NOVA ArtWorks is a very meaningful and powerful program. I have seen firsthand the joy, self-confidence, and empowerment that the artmaking instills in the individuals. For many, this is the most productive part of their week and their only social outlet within the community. The art process is therapeutic and the product creates a sense of accomplishment. The artists are thrilled when their art is sold and they receive a profit for their creation. Every day may be a challenge for these individuals, but ArtWorks provides the needed structure and connection to support their coping skills and recovery."
